In this new V4 release, Diigo's annotations user interfaces have been improved and additional view annotation filters are added.
Here is a basic "how to add sticky note" tutorial:
Sticky notes basics: there are 3 kinds of comment options in Diigo:
Since the associated highlight and sticky note are persistent and very targeted, they allow you to jot down your comments directly on any part of a webpage and scan through all your research findings quickly. While private notes are great for personal reminder, public and/or group sticky notes allow you to exchange viewpoints on any specific area of a webpage. It is great for collaboration or fine-grained debate on specific point on a webpage!
To add an "In-situ sticky note":
Highlight a block of text first (see "How to highlight" section)
Mouse-over the highlighted area. #1 - A "Highlight Menu" will appear ~ New! Select "Add sticky note" (#2)
Add your comment, then press "Ok" - That's it!
Tips: more actions available under the Highlight menu (#2). Also multiple highlight color selections (#3)
With the new Highlight Menu, the sticky note interface is also re-designed ~ New!
#1 Number within the "Highlight Menu box" indicates number of comments.
#2 Change the privacy /sharing preference.
#3 Drag to resize the sticky note window
#4 Click to "hide public sticky notes" ~ New! We have now added additional ways for you to filter unwanted annotations - see more details on "View Annotations Filter " section below
#5 Click "trash can" to delete your own note
To view the sticky note:
Mouse-over the highlight and the sticky note will show up in a pop-up window. Now the sticky note window is also re-sizable simply by dragging the lower right hand corner ~ New!
Or, open up the sidebar (on toolbar), This URL » Annotations tab to view all annotations for this page at a glance!
To delete the sticky note:
Once sticky note opens, click the trash can icon next to the comment that you wish to delete.
Floating note comes in handy when you wish to add a single sticky note to a page and not associated with any highlight. Not only you can move it around and positioned it anywhere you wish on a page, it's also perfect for a webpage that has dynamic content! The floating note icon is also freshly re-designed to symbolize the floating sticky note nature ~ New!
To add a "Floating sticky note:
Select "Comment icon » "Add a floating sticky note to this page" on the new toolbar.
Start adding your note, and click "Ok" to save.
To view this floating note (shown by the new "yellow post-it note with a blue pin"):
Mouse-over the yellow post-it note, and the note window will pop-up (resizable by dragging the lower right hand corner >>)
Tips:
This sticky note can be dragged around with your mouse and positioned it anywhere you wish on a webpage!
Number within the "yellow post-it note" indicates number of comments.
Sometimes you may wish to add a general note about a bookmark (public or private), or discuss with others about a webpage in a forum-like discussion.
To add a "Page Comment":
Simply click "Comment" icon on toolbar, sidebar will expand to allow you to add note:
Page comments can be viewed in your My Bookmarks » "Expanded", or via the sidebar Annotations view:
Sticky notes are either PRIVATE (default), PUBLIC, or GROUP. Private sticky notes are viewable by the author and any forwarded recipients.
Public sticky notes can be seen on the page by all Diigo members with the Diigo toolbar or Diigolet installed, and its viewing mode set to "All".
The highlights associated with public sticky notes also become PUBLIC, i.e., viewable to all Diigo members.
Public highlights and sticky notes should be done with care. To minimize graffiti and spam, we have raised the bar for making public highlights and sticky notes:
you need at least two friends in the Diigo community to do so.
